Driver/Attendant required working within the Environmental Management Home-School Transport SEN Team. The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects staff to share this commitment.

Hours of Duty: 25 flexible working hours in accordance with the needs of the service, term time only.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties in accordance with Rochdale Council's Equality and Diversity Policy.
  • Ensure that Rochdale Council's commitment to public service orientation and care of our customers is provided.
  • Must be able and willing to render regular and efficient service to undertake the duties of the post.
  • Responsible for the health, safety and welfare of self, colleagues and the public in accordance with the Health and Safety policies of Rochdale Borough Council.
  • Must be committed to working towards Single Team Principles.
  • Must be able to work towards achieving the priorities of Aiming High.
  • To work within a performance management framework.
  • Collect and return children to their home at the beginning and end of their journey.
  • Act as first point of contact between service users and the relevant service and maintain accurate records of passengers.
  • Provide for the service users' physical and emotional needs.
  • Transport goods, equipment, stores requisites, mail, school dinners and personnel as required.
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of vehicles where necessary.
  • Drive in such a manner as to ensure the safety and comfort of passengers and give due consideration to other road users.
  • Drive in such a manner as to avoid unnecessary wear and tear on the vehicle.
  • Carry out appropriate vehicle checks (e.g. oil, water, tyres etc.) and cleaning of vehicles both inside and out.
  • Be prepared to work throughout the Borough at any given time.

Secondary Duties

  • To participate in Council programmes of in-service training as a trainee and when required as a trainer facilitator.
  • To undertake such other duties and responsibilities of an equivalent nature as may be determined from time to time by the Service Head (or nominated representative) in consultation with the post holder (and if he/she so wishes, with his/her Trade Union representative).
  • To become familiar with the equipment on the vehicle so as to be able to meet emergencies when they occur.

This post is subject to a Child Workforce Enhanced Disclosure and Barring clearance with barred lists check. Family friendly contract and holidays must be taken during RBC school closure. This post involves occasional evening and weekend work. In accordance with Section 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 this post requires the ability to converse at ease with the members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English. This post is not Politically Restricted in accordance with the current regulations.
