Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) is looking for a knowledgeable and proactive
Fire & Building Safety Officer to join our Property Compliance team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in fire safety, building safety or compliance, who is committed to protecting customers and supporting a strong culture of safety across our homes and communities.
You'll play a key role in ensuring compliance with legislation, managing safety programmes and working collaboratively with customers, colleagues and contractors to deliver safe, high-quality homes.
About the Role
As a
Fire & Building Safety Officer at RBH, you will support the effective delivery of fire and building safety compliance across our property portfolio.
Working closely with contractors, regulatory bodies and internal teams, you'll help ensure safety inspections, assessments, remedial works and compliance activities are delivered to the highest standards.
You'll contribute to the ongoing management of building safety cases, monitor contractor performance, support safety projects and provide specialist advice to help ensure RBH meets its statutory obligations and regulatory requirements.
- What You'll Be Doing
- Coordinating and monitoring Fire Risk Assessments and ensuring actions are completed within agreed timescales.
- Undertaking fire and building safety inspections across a range of properties.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of Building Safety Cases and the Golden Thread of information.
- Managing remedial works and monitoring contractor performance to ensure compliance requirements are met.
- Supporting the delivery of fire and building safety projects from inception through to completion.
- Carrying out Person-Centred Fire Risk Assessments and supporting Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans where required.
- Investigating defects and working with contractors and colleagues to resolve issues promptly.
- Producing reports, compliance information and performance data for managers and regulatory bodies.
- Liaising with customers, stakeholders and external agencies to promote a positive safety culture.
- Supporting service improvements, policy development and compliance assurance activities.
About You
You will be passionate about customer safety and committed to maintaining the highest standards of fire and building safety compliance.
You will have
- Experience within fire safety, building safety, compliance, construction, property maintenance or a related field.
- A good understanding of fire safety legislation, compliance requirements and risk management principles.
- Experience managing contractors, projects or compliance programmes.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to interpret technical information and produce clear reports and recommendations.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
- Confidence in challenging poor performance and ensuring high standards are maintained.
- Good IT skills and experience using systems to record and monitor compliance activities.
Qualifications
- NEBOSH Fire Safety and Risk Management Certificate (Level 3) or equivalent, or willingness to work towards.
- Level 3 Fire Risk Assessment/Fire Protection qualification or willingness to work towards.
- BTEC HNC, Degree in Building Surveying, Construction or a related discipline, or willingness to work towards.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle insured for business use.
Membership of the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), Institute of Fire Safety Managers (IFSM) or IOSH certification would be advantageous.
