Roc Search are looking to hire a BESS Engineering Manager to work for our renewable energy developer client to provide engineering expertise and lead on management of the engineering development of BESS systems throughout the various phases of the projects, from early development to operations.
Role and Responsibilities
- Development
- Support development activities: site selection and evaluation, constraints and constructability assessment in the light of the commercial requirements.
- Review and opine on grid connection offers.
- Provide technical input to planning, land transaction and consenting processes.
- Lead Technical Due Diligence activities for acquisition of development or RTB BESS projects and coordination of external advisors.
- Pre-construction and Construction
- Equipment selection support.
- Coordinate the definition of employer requirements and other commercial requirements such as Q/A and warranty requirements.
- Support financial teams by owning economic assumptions in the financial model, including CAPEX and OPEX assumptions.
- Lead on lender side technical due diligence.
- Coordinate with the Financial team to provide the required technical input.
- Own the definition of employer requirements in coordination with OEs or external consultants.
- Support procurement in the definition of the EPC, supply and O&M agreements.
- Identify and address and mitigate project technical risks.
- Coordinate with Owner Engineers and contractor the design development process of BESS systems in line with Engineering processes.
- Coordinate with commercial teams to integrate the agreements commercial and compliance requirements to assure suitability of the technical solution.
- Assure the integration of the BESS projects into the SCADA and AM systems.
- Handover
- Support Technical Asset Management (TAM) on Q/A and commissioning related matters including control systems.
- Operations
- Support TAM with technical expertise on performance related issues, RCAs, repowering.
- Disseminate lessons learned and technical commercial information on BESS related matters to wider Engineering Team and other business functions.
Skills and Qualifications
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred) or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum of 5 years proven experience as a project engineer, consultant or Engineering Manager in grid scale BESS projects.
- Strong technical understanding of BESS systems, including battery technologies and design, PCS, modular and integrated systems, LV systems, auxiliaries.
- Familiarity with BESS control and communicating systems (BMS, EMS).
- Proven knowledge of BESS safety system and related standards.
- Familiarity with grid-connection requirements.
- Awareness of route-to-market considerations for BESS assets.
- Experience with O&M requirements and asset life-cycle requirements highly desirable.
