An established specialist in bespoke scenic construction and creative fabrication is looking for a talented

Design Engineer to join its growing team in Croydon.

Working across theatre, live events, exhibitions, museums, retail and experiential projects, you'll play a key role in turning creative concepts into practical, buildable engineering solutions.

This is an opportunity to work on unique, high-profile projects where no two days are the same.

The Role

  • Working closely with project managers, workshop teams and clients, you will:
  • Produce detailed 3D CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
  • Develop practical engineering solutions for bespoke scenic and structural projects.
  • Create fabrication drawings for steelwork, timber and mixed-material assemblies.
  • Liaise with production and installation teams to ensure designs are delivered efficiently.
  • Prepare bills of materials and technical documentation.
  • Support projects from concept through to manufacture and installation.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering and safety standards.

About You

We're looking for someone with

  • Experience in a Design Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer or Structural Design Engineer position.
  • Strong 3D CAD Inventor and Auto CAD Skills
  • Experience designing bespoke fabricated products or structures.
  • Knowledge of steel fabrication, timber construction or sheet metal manufacturing.
  • An understanding of manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.

Experience within scenic construction, exhibitions, shopfitting, events, architectural metalwork or bespoke manufacturing would be highly advantageous.
