The Role
You will act as the technical design authority for electronic systems, providing hands-on leadership, mentoring, and strategic direction to a team of experienced engineers. You will identify design issues early, guide teams toward robust solutions, and ensure all designs meet demanding operational requirements. A key aspect of the role is shaping the future technical direction of the electronics capability. This includes researching emerging technologies, evaluating modern components and techniques, and running proof-of-concept activities to demonstrate their suitability.
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing day-to-day technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to an electronics development team
- Acting as technical authority for electronic designs, ensuring quality, reliability and fitness for purpose
- Leading and conducting formal electronic design reviews
- Translating user requirements into robust technical solutions
- Setting strategic technical direction and maintaining awareness of emerging technologies
- Working closely with suppliers, manufacturers and academic partners
- Maintaining delivery momentum to meet operational deadlines
Qualifications
Essential
- Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or a related engineering discipline OR Postgraduate qualification (MEng or PhD) in an electronic engineering discipline
Desirable
- PhD in RF Engineering
- Chartered Engineer (CEng)
Essential Experience
You must be able to demonstrate:
- At least 12 years' electronics design experience
- Technical leadership of an electronics systems development team with multi-disciplinary skills
- Day-to-day technical oversight, mentoring and guidance of engineers
- Significant experience in at least three of the following:
- RF design and analysis
- FPGA design (VHDL, simulation and hardware design)
- Schematic capture and multi-layer PCB design
- Miniaturisation and design for manufacture
- Real-time embedded systems (hardware and software design using C)
- Audio and communications systems
- Mechanical design and 3D modelling
