An established and well-respected manufacturer of material handling solutions is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing engineering team. Supplying customers across a wide range of industrial sectors, the business designs and manufactures a variety of bespoke and standard products including loading systems, lifting equipment and material handling solutions.
The Role
Working closely with manufacturing, sales and project teams, you will be responsible for the design and development of both new and existing products, taking projects from concept through to manufacture and installation. This is an excellent opportunity to work on bespoke machinery and engineered solutions within a stable and growing UK manufacturer.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop material handling equipment using SolidWorks.
- Produce detailed manufacturing drawings, BOMs and technical documentation.
- Carry out FEA analysis to validate designs and optimise product performance.
- Support projects from concept design through to manufacture and commissioning.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal departments to define technical requirements.
- Support prototype builds, testing and product development activities.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering standards and legislation.
- Identify opportunities for product improvements, value engineering and cost reduction initiatives.
- Provide technical support to manufacturing and installation teams.
Requirements
- HNC, HND or Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks for 3D modelling and drawing generation.
- Experience using FEA tools for structural analysis and design validation.
- Understanding of fabrication, welding, machining and manufacturing processes.
- Experience producing manufacturing drawings and BOMs.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable
- Experience with material handling equipment, lifting equipment or special purpose machinery.
- Knowledge of hydraulics and mechanical power transmission systems.
- Familiarity with relevant machinery directives and engineering standards.
- Experience with design for manufacture and assembly principles.
