We are seeking an experienced 5G / LTE RAN Engineer to support major mobile network deployment, optimisation, and performance improvement programmes in the London and Reading areas.

About the Role

This role sits within large-scale telecom operator or vendor environments supporting radio access network (RAN) deployment, integration, optimisation, and live network performance management for 4G and 5G networks. This is a hands-on contract role suitable for engineers with experience in Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, Samsung, or telecom managed service environments.

Responsibilities

  • Support 5G NR and LTE RAN deployment, integration, and optimisation activities across live networks
  • Perform radio network troubleshooting, fault isolation, and performance analysis
  • Analyse and optimise key network KPIs such as throughput, latency, handover success rate, and drop rates
  • Support cluster optimisation activities and drive test analysis
  • Work with OSS tools for network monitoring, fault management, and performance reporting
  • Support site acceptance testing (SAT), integration testing, and network acceptance procedures
  • Collaborate with core network, transmission, and field engineering teams
  • Support software upgrades, parameter optimisation, and network expansion activities
  • Ensure adherence to operator and vendor engineering standards and processes

Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience in LTE and/or 5G RAN environments
  • Solid understanding of radio access network principles and optimisation techniques
  • Experience working with Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, or similar RAN vendor equipment
  • Strong experience in KPI analysis and network performance optimisation
  • Experience with drive testing tools such as TEMS, Nemo, or Actix (preferred)
  • Experience working with OSS platforms and telecom network monitoring tools
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in live production telecom networks

Required Skills

  • Experience with 5G NSA and SA network architecture
  • Exposure to VoLTE, IMS, or core voice networks
  • Experience with SON (Self-Organising Networks) features
  • Experience in NOC or managed service environments
  • Understanding of IP transport in mobile networks

Preferred Skills

  • Telecom vendors such as Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, Samsung
  • Managed service providers such as Tech Mahindra, Capgemini, Accenture, HCL, or Wipro
  • Mobile network operators or MVNO environments in the UK or Europe

Pay range and compensation package

Long-term contract opportunities with extensions likely. Work on large-scale 5G rollout and optimisation programmes in the UK. Exposure to leading telecom operators and vendor environments. Hybrid working model (London / Reading) depending on project requirements. Competitive contractor rates based on experience and seniority.
