The Network Engineer Consultant will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the network infrastructure of our organization. This role requires a deep understanding of routing and switching technologies to ensure the efficient and secure transfer of data across the network.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement functional network infrastructure (routing, switching, Wi-Fi) that ensures the integrity and availability of information and access.
- Work alongside the UC team covering network aspects for the delivery of Microsoft Teams solutions.
- Support the UC teams migration of on-prem Cisco UC infrastructure to Cisco hosted or Cloud solutions.
- QoS implementations to aid the changing UC landscape with Wide Area Network capacity planning and upgrades.
- Rollout of Cisco ThousandEyes monitoring across the network.
- Troubleshoot network issues and outages, schedule upgrades, and collaborate with network architects on network optimization.
- Update network equipment to the latest firmware releases.
- Report network operational status by gathering and prioritising information.
- Manage and lead routing and switching projects, including the configuring and installation of new hardware, software, and services (e.g., Routers, Switches, Firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS), and the creation of policies and procedures related to network hardware and software.
- Provide technical support and consultation for IT and end-user departments.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Network Engineer focusing on routing, switching, Cisco WiFi.
- Deep understanding of networking protocols (e.g., QoS, BGP, OSPF, HSRP, 802.11, 802.1x, IPSEC).
- Hands-on experience with monitoring, network diagnostic, and network analytics tools including Cisco ThousandEyes.
- Knowledge of Cisco SD-WAN, SD-Access, Catalysts Center and ISE is a plus.
- Network Firewall policy administration is a plus.
- Hands-on experience of automation/Scripting and configuration management tools such as Ansible.
- University degree in Computer Science or a related subject.
- Professional certification (e.g., CCNA, CCNP) is preferred.
- Experience with Cisco: Switches, Routers, Firewalls, Catalyst Center, ISE, WiFi.
Desirable skills:
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Documentation skills (Visio is a plus).
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
