As we continue to grow internationally, we are looking for a Software Engineer to join our UK team in Southampton and support the delivery of mission-critical marine autonomy systems.
The Role
We are seeking a highly capable Software Engineer to design and build real-time control and monitoring applications that interface directly with hardware, sensors, and industrial systems.
Working closely with systems, controls, and hardware engineers, you will develop high-performance backend software using C# / .
NET, operating close to the metal in safety-critical environments.
This is not a purely web-based role — it requires strong systems thinking and hands-on problem-solving.
What you will do
- Develop high-performance applications using C# / . NET
- Build multi-threaded, asynchronous, event-driven systems
- Implement TCP/IP and UDP socket communications
- Interface with hardware including CANbus devices, sensors, and controllers
• Implement and decode protocols such as
- Parse CAN frames, PGNs, and device-specific messages
- Develop real-time data processing and control logic
- Design secure APIs for telemetry, monitoring, and command & control
- Debug and optimise system performance, latency, and reliability
- Collaborate closely with hardware, controls, and systems engineering teams
Qualifications & Skills
- 3+ years’ experience in backend, systems, or software development
- Strong proficiency in C# and . NET / . NET Core
- Experience with TCP/IP networking and asynchronous programming
- Strong debugging and systems-level troubleshooting skills
- Experience interfacing with hardware or sensors is highly desirable
- Familiarity with NMEA 0183 / NMEA 2000, maritime, robotics, or autonomous systems is a plus
- Docker, Azure, or safety-critical software experience advantageous
