We are working with a well known manufacturer of heavyside building products, in their search for an experienced and commercially driven Sales Director to join the team. The primary focus of the role is to lead the merchant sales and national account teams as well as managing relationships with national merchants and independent buying groups. This is a national, senior, strategic role responsible for driving revenue growth, margin performance, and long-term partnerships across a high-value customer portfolio. The successful candidate will operate at board and senior stakeholder level, shaping trading agreements, developing account strategies, and delivering sustainable market share growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and develop strategic relationships with national merchants and buying groups at senior executive level.
- Managing, coaching and developing the sales team, which includes 5 external sales reps and 4 in the national/major accounts team.
- Lead the negotiation and management of customer trading agreements, rebates, and commercial frameworks.
- Deliver volume, revenue, and margin growth in line with agreed budgets and targets.
- Create and execute account plans that maximise long-term value and market penetration.
- Identify and develop new business opportunities across existing and new customer groups.
- Drive brand growth and product adoption within the merchant channel.
- Lead, coach, and mentor a senior account management resource.
- Act as the senior commercial interface between customers and internal teams (sales, marketing, customer service, technical, and operations).
- Provide regular performance reporting, market analysis, and commercial insight.
This role is suited to a senior commercial leader with deep sector experience and a strong track record in national account management.
In addition to:
- Extensive experience within building products, construction materials, or a closely related sector.
- Proven success managing sales with national merchants and/or buying groups.
- Strong background in negotiating complex commercial and trading agreements.
- Demonstrable experience delivering revenue, margin, and market share growth.
- Exceptional relationship management skills at senior stakeholder level.
- Highly developed commercial, strategic, and analytical capability.
- Experience leading and developing senior sales professionals.
- Strong presentation, communication, and influencing skills.
- Comfortable operating autonomously in a remote, senior leadership role.
