About the team + role

We are building an elite team, applying frontier technologies to the world’s biggest financial problems. We’re looking for bold thinkers, sharp problem-solvers, and builders who are wired to make an impact. Robinhood isn’t a place for complacency; it’s where ambitious people do the best work of their careers. We’re a high-performing, fast-moving team with ethics at the center of everything we do. Expectations are high, and so are the rewards.

The Custody Services team is responsible for managing our crypto infrastructure, digital asset custody providers, and the various integrations we maintain with third-parties — from wallet management to crypto infrastructure management! The team is also responsible for processing crypto transactions, as well as products like staking, lending, and travel rule compliance. We currently safeguard billions in assets under custody for millions of customers.

As a Senior Backend Engineer on this team, you'll work on the infrastructure behind crypto processing, wallet and key management workflows, and our integrations with third-party custodians. Most of what you'll build sits at the boundary between infrastructure and security. This role is based in our London, UK office(s), with in-person attendance expected at least 3 days per week. At Robinhood, we believe in the power of in-person work to accelerate progress, spark innovation, and strengthen community. Our office experience is intentional, energizing, and designed to fully support high-performing teams. Requires participation in an on-call rotation to support business needs.

What you’ll do:

  • Build and run the AWS infrastructure behind custody, key management, and blockchain node operations.
  • Automate infrastructure and configuration management (Ansible, Terraform, or similar) so the team spends less time on manual operations.
  • Run our blockchain nodes across the networks we support, and keep them healthy and available.
  • Write and maintain services in Python for infrastructure management and wallet operations.
  • Own the integrations with third-party custodians.
  • Build out Kubernetes and Docker deployments as we containerize more of the custody stack.
  • Set up monitoring and alerting (Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent) so we know about problems before customers do.
  • Apply security controls and standards throughout — access control, key management, incident response.
  • Provide on-call support, responding to and resolving production issues to keep custody systems reliable and available.

What you bring:

  • Senior-level experience running cloud infrastructure (AWS) in production.
  • Experience managing blockchain nodes in production.
  • Hands-on experience with Ansible, Terraform, or similar configuration management and Infrastructure as Code tooling.
  • Experience running containerized workloads on Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Solid Python and/or Go skills, with real production experience.
  • A strong security focus — you've worked on systems where key management and access control are critical.
  • Experience with Prometheus, Grafana, or an equivalent monitoring stack.

Bonus points:

  • Experience integrating with third-party custodians like BitGo or Fireblocks — this is a key differentiator for this role.

What we offer:

  • Challenging, high-impact work to grow your career.
  • Performance driven compensation with multipliers for outsized impact, bonus programs, and equity ownership.
  • Top tier benefits to fuel your work, including supplemental health insurance, ancillary insurance, and mental health support programs.
  • Access to the best AI tools on the market and continuous AI skill-building for every employee, technical or not.
  • Lifestyle wallet - a highly flexible employer-paid benefits spending account for expenses beyond traditional benefits such as wellness, childcare, learning, and more.
  • Time off to recharge including company holidays, paid time off, sick time, paid volunteer time off, parental leave, and more!
  • Exceptional office experience with catered meals, events, and comfortable workspaces.
  • Monthly commuter stipend to help offset in-office commuting costs.

If our mission energizes you and you’re ready to build the future of finance, we look forward to seeing your application. Robinhood provides equal opportunity for all applicants, offers reasonable accommodations upon request, and complies with applicable equal employment and privacy laws. Inclusion is built into how we hire and work—welcoming different backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences so everyone can do their best.

How to prepare for a job interview at Robinhood

Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned. If Robinhood uses React or Node.js, for instance, be ready to discuss how we’ve used them in previous projects or coursework.

Showcase Your Projects

Bring along a portfolio that highlights our best work. This could be code samples, GitHub repositories, or any side projects we’ve built. Make sure we can talk through our thought process for each project, especially the challenges we faced and how we solved them—this shows our problem-solving skills in action.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

While technical skills are key, full-time positions also require cultural fit. Be ready to discuss our previous experiences and how we handle teamwork, conflict, and deadlines. Brush up on the STAR method—Situation, Task, Action, Result—to clearly articulate our past experiences when discussing how we've contributed to a team.
