Robin Hood Primary and Nursery School is looking to appoint a skilled, caring and highly motivated Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join our growing Specialist Resource Provision for pupils with mild to moderate autism. This is an exciting time to join our school. From September 2026, our provision will be expanded to support 14 pupils, enabling more children to access specialist support while remaining part of a vibrant, inclusive mainstream primary school community.

Our provision is led by an experienced school leader and supported by a fantastic, committed team who work closely together to make a real difference every day. We are looking for someone who is confident in supporting pupils with additional needs, able to lead learning with care and structure, and committed to helping children develop confidence, communication, independence and a love of learning.

Salary Grade: D5-9 - FTE: £29,436.00 - £31,158.00 Actual £23,318.00 - £24,683.00

Hours: Total hours per week 33.25 hrs. Monday to Friday, 8:30am-3:30pm (½ hour unpaid lunch each day) - plus one extended day until 4:15pm for team meeting.

About the role

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant in our Specialist Resource Provision, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both within the provision and during carefully planned opportunities to learn and play alongside their peers in the mainstream school. You will work under the guidance of the lead teacher, supporting the planning and delivery of learning and leading agreed sessions with individuals, small groups or the whole provision as appropriate. You will help pupils access learning, build relationships, regulate their emotions and develop the skills they need to thrive.

The role will include:

  • Leading agreed learning sessions under the guidance of the lead teacher;
  • Supporting pupils with mild to moderate autism in small group and individual contexts;
  • Helping pupils access learning within the specialist provision and mainstream classrooms;
  • Adapting learning activities to meet pupils’ individual needs;
  • Supporting communication, social interaction, emotional regulation and independence;
  • Modelling effective support strategies for other adults where appropriate;
  • Working closely with teachers, senior leaders, families and external professionals;
  • Contributing to assessment, observation and feedback to inform next steps;
  • Helping to create a calm, nurturing and highly inclusive environment;
  • Being part of a reflective team that celebrates every step of progress.

  • Has the skills, confidence and experience to lead learning sessions with guidance;
  • Is warm, patient, reliable and resilient;
  • Has high expectations for all pupils;
  • Understands, or is keen to further develop their understanding of, autism and inclusive practice;
  • Can build positive relationships with children, staff and families;
  • Communicates clearly and works well as part of a close, committed team;
  • Is calm under pressure and able to support pupils with empathy and consistency;
  • Can use initiative while working within agreed plans and systems;
  • Wants to make a genuine difference to children’s lives.

Experience of working with children with autism or additional needs would be an advantage. HLTA status, or equivalent experience of leading learning, would be desirable.
