Your new role

The primary role of the Commercial Director is to provide operational commercial support to the Regional Managing Director, leading the commercial team within the regional business to ensure that the business objectives are being met while continuously assessing risk and opportunity.

About the role:

  • Assist and advise on legal and contractual matters during preconstruction as directed by the RMD.
  • Production of monthly financial results, including forecasting year‑end financial position.
  • Develop and present commercial strategies and proposals.
  • Carry out internal audits and cost/value investigations as required on projects that display concerns in respect of programme slippage and report findings.
  • Ensure that all Commercial policies and procedures are being implemented diligently within the business and raise any non‑conformances found with the RMD to allow corrective action.
  • Monitor that all projects have actual vs planned cashflows, ensuring that variations and final accounts processes are diligently applied.
  • Visit projects regularly to undertake assurance checks.
  • Act professionally to protect and maintain the good standing of the Company within the industry and its clients.
  • Ensure that the businesses maintain a focus on the delivery of Robertson Group Strategic Objectives and the embedment of Group Strategies, measured via Key Performance Indicators.
  • Negotiate and utilise a robust set of main and sub‑contract provisions in each project to minimise risk.
  • Review the suitability of the supply chain being used by the Business, ensure compliance with Group minimum standards, and report on any issues regarding commercial and contractual performance on projects.
  • Ensure that governance and risk management is robust, reviewing and strengthening our processes and risk management in all areas.
  • Constantly monitor the business project risk, opportunity, recovery, cashflows, and expenditure, advising the RMD of any changes to budget/forecasted outcomes.
  • Attend Regional Board meetings.

About you:

  • Relevant Quantity Surveying degree.
  • Relevant Professional qualification (preferred).
  • Senior level professional commercial experience.
  • Wide experience of the construction marketplace.
  • Excellent knowledge of procurement processes.
  • Experience in delivering targets through the effective appointment and management of all Construction.
