Robertson Recruitment are recruiting for a Buyer/Purchaser to join a precision engineering and sheet-metal manufacturing business in Nottingham. This is an important position within the company’s purchasing and supply-chain function. You will be responsible for sourcing materials, components and subcontract services while ensuring the business receives the correct quality, quantity and price within the required timescales. The successful candidate will work closely with production, planning, sales, engineering and finance to support customer orders and maintain an efficient flow of materials through the manufacturing operation.
Working hours: Monday to Thursday 8:00 - 17:00 (1 hour lunch) or 8:30 - 17:00 (30 min lunch), Fridays 16:30 finish. Please be aware there can be some flexibility.
Responsibilities
- Purchase raw materials, components, consumables and subcontract services required for production.
- Source materials including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and other ferrous and non-ferrous metals.
- Raise and process purchase orders accurately using the company’s purchasing or ERP system.
- Review production requirements, stock levels and outstanding orders to determine purchasing priorities.
- Obtain quotations from suppliers and compare price, quality, availability and delivery times.
- Negotiate competitive pricing, payment terms and delivery arrangements.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with existing and prospective suppliers.
- Monitor outstanding purchase orders and expedite deliveries when necessary.
- Work closely with production planning to understand upcoming material requirements.
- Maintain accurate supplier, pricing, lead-time and purchasing information.
- Produce purchasing reports and provide updates to management.
- Follow company quality, health and safety, environmental and purchasing procedures.
Skills and Experience
- Previous experience as a Buyer, Purchaser, Purchasing Assistant, Procurement Coordinator or Materials Controller.
- Experience within manufacturing, engineering, sheet metal, fabrication or a related industrial environment.
- A good understanding of purchasing processes, supplier management and stock control.
- Experience sourcing raw materials, components or subcontract manufacturing services.
- Confident obtaining quotations and negotiating with suppliers.
- Experience using an ERP, MRP or purchasing system.
- Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel and Outlook.
- Strong numerical ability and excellent attention to detail.
