Your new role
The primary role of the Executive Commercial Director is to provide operational commercial support to the Chief Operating Officer and to the operational teams within the regional businesses.
What you’ll do
- Support, train and provide advice to the business units and their teams and ensure that company commercial procedures are continuously adhered to and improved upon.
- Ensure Losses and Gains reports are regularly carried out and close out commercial risk and losses, reviewing and implementing necessary systems and procedures to improve and strengthen the overall commercial function of the business under management.
- Ensure that contract commercial documents/approvals are reviewed and signed off as required in accordance with the Group Authority Matrix.
- Undertake regular business risk reviews outside company board meetings to ensure all risks and opportunities are fully understood and properly managed and reported in accordance with company procedures.
- Check that appropriate Risk mitigation strategies are in place where required.
- Develop the Risk, Opportunity, and Recovery identification, reporting and monitoring culture to maximise margin potential.
- Manage the reporting and analysis of project audits, loss and gains and recovery reports across the above businesses and initiate/contribute to ongoing business improvement plans to reduce operational inefficiency.
- Input to the preparation of the annual budgets and business plans to reflect shareholder requirements.
- Support the above businesses in achieving budget through preparation, delivery, and commercial management of projects.
- Ensure a training programme is in place to develop both school leavers and graduates within the business commercial function.
- Help develop a full suite of eLearning in respect of commercial management processes.
- Ensure that all people within the businesses commercial team receive a regular performance appraisal aligned with Group’s requirements.
- Ensure all people joining the commercial team receive appropriate induction.
- Deal with employee issues and disciplinaries.
- In conjunction with the Regional Businesses implement a Supply Chain Strategy and framework in conjunction with the Group Procurement Director.
- Ensure the company complies with all the requirements of the relevant RMS financial procedures.
- Ensure that all main and sub-contracts being entered into have been vetted from a commercial and contractual perspective, recognising and understanding the risks associated with each form of contract.
- Input to the bid process ensuring that commercial and contractual risks are identified and appropriately priced or managed, requiring liaison with preconstruction teams and the Technical Director.
- Conduct regular and rigorous financial checks of the supply chain.
- Ensure robust checks are made into the financial standing of clients prior to entering contract, seeking appropriate financial guarantees in instances of concern.
- Ensure an appropriate cash flow forecast is produced for each project and is regularly assessed during the currency of each project.
- Ensure projects are managed in an open and collaborative team culture between the commercial and operational functions.
- Ensure each project team is conversant with the assumptions articulated within the gateway 4 handover.
- Each project leader must follow the plan and be responsible for both the operational and commercial function within each project team and must be fully conversant with the commercial picture on each project.
What you’ll need
- Relevant higher degree or professional qualification and/or substantial executive-level professional experience.
- A track record of working at a senior level with private and public-sector clients, influencing policy and approach at the highest level.
- An expert level understanding of the current property, regeneration and strategic land industry and marketplace.
- Wide experience of property, regeneration and strategic land at various levels, including strategic leadership.
- A demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking and the development and implementation of new products and services.
- Experience in presenting and selling complex proposals to audiences at all levels of seniority.
- Experience in delivering targets through the effective appointment and management of staff.
