Reporting to the Commissioning Manager, you will fulfil all the necessary requirements with regards to the operational activities in the Commissioning Department. You will need to meet the Company’s objectives by providing effective leadership to ensure a motivated team and to enable the manufacturing of high quality and cost-efficient boats and achieve very stringent deadlines. Maintain the cosmetic defects on the boat that aligns with the strategy for safety, quality, on time delivery and customer focused service. To be involved in continuous improvement initiatives and related projects to optimise the efficiencies in the Commissioning Department. See to relevant admin and IR functions within the commissioning department.
Key Job Functions
- Aid the Manager in production planning and control daily activities.
- Implement and enforce quality standards, control and tracking progress on quality defects.
- Maintain stable workstation schedules and production-delivery.
- Organize service departments manning to improve efficiency of M/Beth & RCYC.
- Plan, organize and control cleaning crews, plumbers, mechanics, spray painters and window finishers.
- Structure and review third audit defect lists and manage resources to meet handover targets.
- Ensure that after handover all documents are signed before handing commissioning file to the manager and that all commissioning items and customer HO & SO are signed off.
- Ensure that all pre HO inspections are completed and declared ready before customer starts with the handover.
- Maintain and adhere to manufacturing and quality standards.
- Ensure daily reporting on status of the line activity and activity adherence.
- Continuously coach, train, develop and mentor staff.
- Manage the performance of the team leaders and team members and that task assignments are adhered to.
- Manage time and attendance issues and ensure a disciplined workforce is maintained.
- Ensure that workstations comply with health and safety standards.
- Continuously liaise with internal stakeholders in R&C for incoming products at both receiving and dispatch.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders concerning quality and delivery issues.
- Monitor output and controls against the Waste Management Plan.
- Maintenance as per department Maintenance Plan.
- Enforce discipline through means of a fair corrective action process.
- Identify, present and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications And Experience
- Minimum: Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 qualification (full qualification not certificate).
- Ideal: National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in Production Management/business management or related field.
- Experience: At least 3 yrs. experience on senior supervisory level.
- Advantageous: Practical boating experience.

- Strong ability to manage teams through operational changes in process, environment and resources.
- Good leadership, planning, organising, communication and control skills.
- Excellent working knowledge in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Good customer relations abilities.
- Be flexible, adaptable, able and willing to modify activities and direction with an ever-changing business environment.
- Must have strong IR experience and have initiated hearings in the past.
- Strong interpersonal skills and work ethic.
- Possess a professional attitude and promote the same in others.
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills (including the ability to write reports, business correspondence, policies and procedure manuals – if required).
- Project Planning and continuous improvement experience.
- Sound understanding of Production and or business Management principles.
- Some understanding of Engineering principles would be advantageous.
