What does the role involve? Simply put, you'll be the go-to HR expert for managers dealing with complex employee matters. Whether it's a disciplinary, grievance, long-term sickness absence, performance issue or workplace investigation, you'll guide managers through the process from start to finish, ensuring they do the right thing for both their people and the business. You'll provide practical advice, coach managers through difficult conversations and help them navigate employment law and company policies with confidence. Not two days are the same, and if you enjoy problem-solving, building relationships and making a real impact, you'll thrive in this role.
What you'll be doing:
- Managing your own portfolio of employee relations cases from initial advice through to resolution.
- Advising managers on disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance and long-term absence matters.
- Supporting managers through investigations, hearings and appeals.
- Reviewing reports and formal documentation to ensure fair, consistent and legally compliant outcomes.
- Coaching managers to improve their confidence in handling people matters.
- Managing Right to Work processes and ensuring compliance with employment legislation.
- Keeping accurate case records and ensuring cases progress efficiently.
- Working closely with colleagues to deliver a consistent, high-quality HR advisory service across the business.
About you:
You'll already have experience managing complex employee relations cases and be confident advising managers at all levels. You'll enjoy finding practical solutions, building trusted relationships and balancing commercial needs with doing what's right for people. We're particularly interested in candidates who have:
- Proven experience handling complex employee relations cases.
- A strong understanding of UK employment law.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A calm, pragmatic and solutions-focused approach.
- The confidence to influence and challenge appropriately.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ideally, a CIPD Level 7 qualification (or equivalent experience).
