The Role – Shift Engineer
As a Shift Engineer, you will play a key role in keeping a high-volume food manufacturing site running safely, efficiently and reliably. Working as part of a supportive shift team, you will carry out both planned and reactive maintenance while contributing to continuous improvement and future site projects. This role suits someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving and teamwork, and who wants to develop their skills in a business that actively supports progression into senior and lead roles.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Diagnosing faults and carrying out breakdown repairs on production and site services equipment
- Completing planned preventative maintenance and responding to maintenance requests
- Supporting continuous improvement and capital projects across the site
- Ensuring compliance with health & safety, food safety, GMP and statutory requirements
- Maintaining accurate engineering documentation and supporting stores management
- Sharing knowledge and supporting colleagues through coaching and collaboration
- Working to site KPIs covering safety, quality, service, cost and performance
- Taking part in effective shift handovers and engineering communication meetings
What We’re Looking For

Essential Experience And Qualifications Include
- A recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification (Electrical or Multi-Skilled)
- Electrical bias preferred (multi-skilled welcomed)
- Experience fault-finding in a manufacturing or FMCG environment
- Knowledge of systems such as pneumatics, hydraulics, steam, PLCs and HMIs
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a shift team
Desirable (but Not Essential)
- Food or FMCG manufacturing experience
- Exposure to continuous improvement methodologies
Shift Pattern & Location
Shift Pattern: 4 on / 4 off (2 days, 2 nights) – 168 shift pattern
Location: Northwich, Cheshire
Working Arrangement: Fully site-based, hands-on engineering role
