The Company
Roberts & Prowse, based on the Elgin Industrial Estate in Swindon, Wiltshire with regional offices in Fernham and Brill, are a Mechanical and Electrical Services Contractor operating throughout the Home Counties, South West & South East of the UK. Due to sustained success and growth, we are recruiting for an Air Conditioning Engineer to join our busy team.
The Role
As an Air Conditioning Engineer you will report directly to the Senior Mechanical Contracts Managers and Site Managers and will be responsible for the installation, service, and maintenance of all types of DX (direct expansion) air conditioning and heat pump systems, ranging from residential split and multi-split systems to large commercial VRF/VRV and hybrid VRF systems, within residential and commercial environments across our operating regions.
Duties
- Carrying out installation of split, multi-split, cassette, ducted, VRF/VRV and hybrid VRF systems (including associated controls).
- Undertaking servicing, planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive call-outs on DX A/C and heat pump systems.
- Completing all necessary documentation, including Field Service Reports, asset registers, commissioning sheets and F-Gas records, as requested by the Senior Mechanical Contracts Managers.
- Supervising all aspects of jobs on site, including labour, materials, subcontractors and programme.
- Meeting deadlines and keeping accurate job records, including variations/extra works, materials used and any delays incurred.
- Ordering parts in the absence of Senior Mechanical Contracts Managers and liaising with suppliers.
- Commissioning, pressure testing, evacuation and charging systems in line with manufacturers’ instructions and current regulations.
- Diagnosing faults on electrical/mechanical/control components and undertaking effective repairs.
- Carrying out all works to a high standard while complying with all relevant health & safety and environmental standards (including safe refrigerant handling).
- Liaising with Senior Mechanical Contracts Managers on any safety issues identified and any faulty equipment.

The Person
To be considered for this role, you should be fully qualified and have proven, previous experience as an Air Conditioning Engineer, including:
- Minimum 3 years’ post-qualification experience in installation, service & maintenance of DX A/C and heat pump systems.
- F-Gas Category 1 (City & Guilds 2079 or equivalent) – essential.
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 Diploma in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (or equivalent).
- Proven experience with residential splits, multi-splits, VRF/VRV (including heat recovery) and hybrid VRF systems.
- Competence in commissioning, leak testing, evacuation and charging.
- Sound electrical knowledge for A/C systems (controls, interconnecting wiring, fault-finding).
- Ability to carry out installations to a high standard in occupied buildings.
- Full UK driving licence.
- CSCS Card holder an advantage.
- IPAF/PASMA an advantage.
- DBS an advantage.
Essentially you will be a time-served Air Conditioning Engineer with a background in Residential and Commercial Building Services. You’ll work accurately and effectively with minimal supervision, communicate clearly with clients and colleagues, and perform well under pressure while maintaining safety and quality standards.

- Air Conditioning Installation Engineer, A/C Service & Maintenance Engineer, HVAC Engineer, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineer, VRF/VRV Engineer, Heat Pump Engineer or similar.
