We’re looking for a Technical Director to join our leadership team and play an impactful role in shaping the future of Robert West. The ideal candidate will be a highly experienced engineer who is an excellent leader, strategist and communicator with exceptional technical capabilities. We have an exciting business strategy to implement, with a strong focus on technical excellence and creativity. What You’ll Do:
- Leadership: Lead the Technical Excellence Team to ensure technical quality, improve technical capabilities and shape team structures. Encouraging and supporting a culture of personal growth among all our staff.
- Support: Support the team in identifying and managing technical solutions and supervise engineers to develop their skills, enabling them to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Strategy: Work within the Senior Leadership Team, to provide technical input into strategic business decisions. Establish strategies to improve technical quality and delivery efficiency. Devise software, standards, analysis, and design methodology strategies.
- Expertise: Providing expert guidance and act as a trusted advisor to clients.
We anticipate your time being split between change leadership, project technical oversight and expert client advice. We would also welcome candidates who have an interest in spending a portion of their time undertaking industry research & development.
What You Bring:
- We’re looking for a driven and skilled engineer, with expertise in marine structures and a proactive approach to project responsibility.
- Qualifications: Chartered Engineer (CEng), Member / Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers or Institution of Structural Engineers.
- Experience: You have a firm grasp of the structural engineering fundamentals and can develop solutions from first principles. You can demonstrate a broad range of technical experience in designing and assessing most, or all the following:
- Rail structures (bridges, stations, depots, platforms, footbridges, lift shafts, etc.)
- Marine structures (jetties, quays, wharves, cofferdams, linkspans, etc.)
- Marine assets (scour protection, outfalls, bulkheads, etc.)
- Temporary works structures (cofferdams, working platforms, pile gates, etc.)
- Foundations and retaining structures.
- Leadership: Proven ability to inspire and guide teams to achieve exceptional results. You will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of the business and mentoring the next generation of engineers. You will have experience developing technical strategies, plans and systems to suit an overall business plan.
- Problem-Solving Skills: An analytical mindset with a talent for overcoming complex design challenges.
- Communication Skills: The ability to convey technical concepts clearly to different audiences. Experience and ability to report on strategic progress at board level.
- Intuition: An intuitive feel for civil engineering, allowing for quick and effective decision-making.
