What you\’ll do:
As a Professional Indemnity Lawyer within this esteemed legal practice, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding the firm\’s reputation by managing professional liability claims and supporting insurance processes. Your day-to-day activities will involve investigating client complaints with diligence, drafting comprehensive responses that uphold high standards of client service, and collaborating closely with senior leaders on complex claims. You will be instrumental in maintaining robust records for all ongoing matters while liaising with external bodies such as the Legal Ombudsman. In addition to supporting insurance notifications and renewals, you will assist in internal investigations led by the General Counsel.

- Assist the Head of Professional Liability with the reporting and management of professional indemnity claims, ensuring timely and accurate handling throughout each stage.
- Investigate client complaints thoroughly and draft clear, well-reasoned responses that reflect the firm\’s commitment to client care and regulatory compliance.
- Support the resolution of claims by managing simpler matters directly or instructing external counsel on more complex issues as required.
- Maintain meticulous records of all complaints and associated deadlines, ensuring nothing is overlooked in the process.
- Liaise effectively with the Legal Ombudsman on relevant cases, representing the firm\’s interests with professionalism and clarity.
- Contribute to insurance notifications and renewals by gathering necessary information and assisting with documentation under the guidance of the Head of Professional Liability.
- Work closely with the General Counsel on internal investigations as well as regulatory inquiries, providing reliable support in sensitive situations.
- Assist with contentious matters involving disputes between the firm and its suppliers or other third parties as they arise.
- Ensure full compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory obligations, including those set out by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) Standards and Regulations.
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to share knowledge, promote best practices in risk management, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
What you bring:
To excel as a Professional Indemnity Lawyer in this role, you will bring substantial experience from either private practice or an in-house setting where you have managed civil or commercial litigation matters. Your background should include significant exposure to professional negligence cases-ideally involving claims against solicitors-and familiarity with insurance coverage issues relevant to professional indemnity. You will possess excellent analytical skills for investigating complaints thoroughly and drafting persuasive written responses.
- Qualified solicitor or barrister with at least 5-7 years\’ experience in civil or commercial litigation within a reputable law firm or in-house legal department.
- Demonstrated expertise in professional negligence work, ideally involving claims against solicitors or similar professionals.
- Proven experience handling insurance coverage issues related to professional indemnity risks is highly desirable.
- A track record of managing claims processes from initial investigation through resolution or escalation as appropriate.
- Excellent written communication skills for drafting detailed responses to complaints and preparing documentation for insurance purposes.
- Strong organisational abilities enabling you to keep accurate records of multiple ongoing matters while meeting critical deadlines.
