Responsibilities: * Take ownership of the purchase-to-pay process by overseeing the end-to-end accounts payable workflow, ensuring smooth daily operations. * Act as the primary point of contact for accounts payable queries, collaborating with budget holders to ensure invoices are accurately coded and approved promptly. * Review and approve payment runs with a focus on accuracy and control, prioritising process integrity over manual processing. * Drive continuous improvements to the accounts payable process as the new system embeds into the business, proactively identifying and resolving bottlenecks. * Serve as custodian of the month-end bookings process by preparing, posting, and reconciling journals accurately and on time across the group. * Prepare monthly journals including prepayments, accruals, and other standard postings while ensuring all entries are properly supported. * Perform balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving any discrepancies efficiently to maintain robust financial records. * Assist with the preparation of management accounts and KPI reporting, maintaining accurate accounting records across the group. * Support audit preparation by providing schedules and documentation as required, ensuring compliance with internal controls. * Contribute to treasury functions by assisting with bank reconciliations, cash flow tracking, banking administration, and embedding new payment solutions. The Ideal Candidate: * You are part-qualified and actively studying towards ACCA, CIMA or AAT qualifications which demonstrates your commitment to professional development. * You have previous experience in a finance or accounting role within a corporate environment where you have built foundational knowledge. * Your understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and core accounting principles enables you to handle complex transactions confidently. * You bring some exposure to purchase-to-pay or accounts payable processes along with an interest in taking ownership of these areas. * Your proficiency with Excel allows you to analyse data efficiently and support reporting requirements effectively. * You possess strong attention to detail paired with a methodical approach that ensures accuracy in all aspects of your work. * Your communication skills enable you to collaborate effectively within a small team setting while building positive relationships across departments. * Experience with Sun Systems or similar ERP platforms would be advantageous but is not essential for success in this role. * Familiarity with AP automation tools such as Yooz or similar systems would be beneficial for streamlining processes further. * An interest or background in oil and gas, energy or natural resources sectors as well as experience working in multi-currency environments would be considered desirable.
