As an In-House Counsel within the Office of the General Counsel, you will play an integral role in advising on complex client engagement terms while supporting broader commercial activities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Advise on clients' own engagement terms including framework agreements, outside counsel guidelines, amendments to standard terms, requests for proposals, and related documentation.
  • Maintain the organisation's global engagement terms while responding to both client and internal queries regarding these documents.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate secondment arrangements, agreements with third parties, and alternative business offerings to ensure compliance with organisational standards.
  • Supervise junior members of the Office of the General Counsel team by providing guidance, oversight, and support on key workstreams.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts across information security, conflicts management, regulatory compliance (including SRA regulations), insurance, tax, and privacy to deliver comprehensive advice.
  • Respond promptly to ad hoc risk queries from stakeholders across the business, acting as a trusted advisor on a broad range of risk issues.
  • Work closely with the Client Engagement workstream lead to design and deliver relevant training sessions for internal stakeholders while upskilling junior team members.
  • Present regularly to stakeholder groups within the organisation to promote the profile of the legal team as trusted advisors.
  • Initiate positive change by building internal and external networks aimed at expanding and improving the service provided by the legal function.

Skills required:

  • Demonstrated experience as a qualified solicitor (or overseas equivalent) with at least four years post-qualification experience handling commercial legal matters.
  • Proven track record advising on client terms or industry-equivalent work within either an in-house or private practice setting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills enabling you to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels while nurturing positive relationships across teams.
  • A conscientious approach marked by attention to detail, discretion when handling sensitive matters, and methodical problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong persuasive communication skills-both written and verbal-with confidence presenting new concepts clearly to groups or individuals.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks efficiently under pressure while managing complex workflows within tight deadlines.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior colleagues by delegating tasks appropriately and fostering their professional growth.
  • Commitment to regular self-development through updating technical expertise and embracing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Solid understanding of key areas of law relevant to commercial contracting coupled with practical application skills.
  • Proficiency using Outlook, Word, Excel, document management systems; willingness to engage with AI tools is highly desirable.
