An exciting opportunity for a Head of Legal has arisen at a global marketing business focused on serving the retail industry. Leading a small team, the Head of Legal will be responsible for providing strategic legal advice to the senior leadership team, and covering a broad range of commercial, intellectual property, privacy and compliance-related matters.

This role could be well-suited to a Senior Legal Counsel looking to take their next step up into a leadership role and the opportunity to manage a legal function. The company’s office is based in West London with a hybrid work policy (3 days in office) and flexible work hours on offer.

Reporting to the CFO, key responsibilities include:

  • Draft, negotiate and advise on commercial contracts such as license agreements, customer and brand agreements, supply and manufacturing agreements, promotional sales agreements, and software agreements.
  • Manage the global trademark portfolio and conduct freedom to operate searches.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Develop and oversee data protection strategies, policies, and procedures to safeguard personal data.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on GDPR requirements and data protection best practices.
  • Managing company secretarial matters such as corporate filings for UK entities.
  • Managing UK real estate and litigation matters as they arise.
  • Liaising and managing external counsel and legal budget.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and attributes :

  • UK-qualified commercial lawyer with minimum 6 years’ PQE qualification, ideally trained in a reputable law firm with some in-house experience (however all candidates will be considered on merit).
  • Strong analytical and technical drafting abilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • Good knowledge of GDPR and intellectual property law.
  • Ability to demonstrate a positive commercial and solutions-focused approach in dealing with a variety of global legal issues.
  • Confident and calm under pressure, adaptive and resilient to changes, with a positive can-do attitude.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to manage both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Demonstrates the ability to present and communicate complex information in a concise and compelling format.
