This newly created position offers you the opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping best practice across the firm, providing expert legal advice on conflicts of interest, and supporting regulatory and governance matters. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, including Partners and the General Counsel, acting as a trusted advisor and escalation point for complex issues. Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key escalation point for complex conflicts of interest issues, providing clear guidance to the Business Acceptance Team and escalating matters to the General Counsel when necessary.
  • Deliver expert legal advice on both legal and commercial conflicts across the wider group, ensuring that Partners and senior stakeholders are fully informed of potential risks associated with new or existing business.
  • Manage queries from the Business Acceptance Team regarding new client onboarding, offering practical solutions and ensuring compliance with internal risk management protocols.
  • Design and implement comprehensive training programmes on conflicts management for both the conflicts team and wider staff groups, promoting a culture of compliance throughout the organisation.
  • Champion process improvement initiatives by embracing new technologies that enhance the efficiency of conflict checks and related procedures.
  • Support junior team members through mentoring, training delivery, and hands-on assistance with ad-hoc projects to foster their ongoing professional development.
  • Collaborate with the General Counsel on updating policies and procedures relevant to conflicts of interest as well as broader regulatory and governance matters.
  • Advise operational stakeholders-including People Team members-on conflict-related risk issues, ensuring alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Assist with internal reviews, investigations, and assurance processes by providing timely legal advice alongside the General Counsel.
  • Proactively monitor changes in the regulatory landscape, assessing their impact on current practices and implementing necessary amendments to maintain compliance.

What you bring

  • Significant experience handling conflicts within a Risk and Compliance team at a UK law firm is essential for success in this role.
  • You must be a qualified lawyer; however, other relevant qualifications or substantial experience may also be considered favourably.
  • Demonstrated experience managing people is crucial as you will mentor junior colleagues and support their professional growth.
  • Experience overseeing key processes or procedures within a legal or compliance context is desirable for this position.
  • Familiarity with Intapp or similar systems used for conflict checking adds valuable insight into streamlining workflows.
