A well established manufacturing business in the North West is looking to appoint an experienced Shift Manager to take full ownership of shift performance within a fast paced, high volume production environment.
The Role
Reporting into the Operations Manager, you'll be responsible for the end-to-end performance of your shift, ensuring production targets are achieved safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards. You'll lead, engage and develop large shop floor teams, coordinate machines, materials and labour, and drive continuous improvement across operational performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Full accountability for health, safety & environmental compliance on shift, acting as a visible and proactive safety leader
- Delivery of the production plan - right product, right time, right volume
- Leadership and development of production teams through 1:1s, appraisals, training and engagement
- Maintain and improve quality standards, GMP and hygiene compliance
- Drive performance improvements using operational data, KPIs and short interval control
- Manage attendance, shift structures, overtime and labour costs
- Investigate incidents, non-conformance and performance losses, implementing corrective actions
- Work closely with planning, engineering and quality teams to remove constraints and improve output
- Lead cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives within your area
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience leading production teams in a manufacturing or FMCG environment
- Strong working knowledge of health & safety, GMP and quality systems
- A hands on leader who can motivate, influence and engage teams on the shop floor
- Confident decision maker, comfortable managing performance, absence and conduct issues
- Able to analyse data, prioritise effectively and maintain control in a fast moving environment
- Engineering or technical exposure is beneficial, with the ability to diagnose and resolve basic machine issues
Qualifications & Experience
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
- Formal leadership or management training advantageous
- IOSH / NEBOSH or strong demonstrated H&S competence preferred
- Experience operating or supervising production lines is highly desirable
