We are currently recruiting for an experienced Money Laundering Reporting Officer to join a regulated UK financial services organisation in Birmingham.
This is a senior financial crime and compliance position with direct exposure to the Board, offering the opportunity to take ownership of the organisation's AML/CTF framework and play a key role in shaping its financial crime risk management approach
Key Responsibilities:
As MLRO, you will have responsibility for the design, implementation and ongoing effectiveness of the firm's AML/CTF framework, ensuring compliance with Money Laundering Regulations, FCA requirements and applicable UK financial crime legislation.
- Developing, maintaining and enhancing AML/CTF policies, procedures and controls.
- Maintaining oversight of the firm's Business-Wide Risk Assessment (BWRA).
- Providing oversight and challenge across CDD, EDD, customer risk assessments and ongoing monitoring.
- Receiving, reviewing and assessing internal suspicious activity reports.
- Determining when external SARs should be submitted to the NCA and submitting SARs, including DAML SARs where applicable.
- Maintaining appropriate SAR records and documentation.
- Overseeing transaction monitoring and sanctions screening frameworks.
- Providing challenge around transaction monitoring effectiveness, calibration, QA and investigation outcomes.
- Maintaining oversight of sanctions, PEP and high-risk jurisdiction exposure.
- Acting as the primary point of contact for the FCA, HMRC, NCA, OFSI and relevant law enforcement bodies.
- Managing regulatory enquiries, audits, inspections and thematic reviews.
- Owning the firm's UK financial sanctions compliance framework.
- Providing regular MI, risk reporting and updates to senior management and the Board.
- Producing the formal annual MLRO report for the Board.
- Designing and delivering AML/CTF training and promoting a strong financial crime culture.
- Advising on AML/CTF considerations relating to new products, services and jurisdictions.
- Maintaining effective governance and ensuring appropriate segregation of duties and independence of the MLRO function.
About You
We are looking for an established MLRO or Deputy MLRO with strong experience within a UK-regulated financial services environment.
You will ideally have:
- At least 3 years' experience as an MLRO or Deputy MLRO within an MSB, EMI, PSP, bank or regulated financial institution.
- Strong knowledge of the Money Laundering Regulations 2017, FCA Handbook and UK financial crime legislation .
- Hands-on experience submitting SARs to the NCA.
- Strong understanding of money remittance and payment services.
- Experience working directly with regulators and managing audits, inspections or regulatory reviews.
- Strong knowledge of AML/CTF, sanctions, transaction monitoring and financial crime risk.
- Excellent judgement and the confidence to make independent, risk-based decisions.
- The ability to challenge senior stakeholders and escalate issues appropriately.
- Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage with regulators and Board-level stakeholders.
