As Interim Head of Finance, you will play an integral role in overseeing daily operations within the Finance department. Your responsibilities will include managing monthly accounting processes, reviewing key financial documents such as management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations, preparing schedules for accruals and prepayments, maintaining asset registers, assisting with audits, and supporting budget planning.
What you'll do:
- Deputise for the Director of Finance as required, providing dependable support and guidance to ensure continuity in leadership.
- Provide day-to-day leadership to the Finance team, fostering motivation and creating a supportive environment that encourages collaboration and high performance.
- Manage senior members of the team by setting clear aspirations, equipping them to supervise their line reports effectively, and monitoring consistent supervision throughout the department.
- Act as a visible presence within the institution to resolve blockages arising from financial administration quickly and efficiently, ensuring smooth operations.
- Review Monthly Management Accounts thoroughly to guarantee accuracy and reflect the current financial position of the organisation.
- Oversee balance sheet reconciliations including all bank accounts, maintaining meticulous attention to detail in all financial processes.
- Prepare and review schedules of accruals, prepayments, and journal postings to ensure compliance with accounting standards.
- Maintain the Fixed Asset Register and depreciation schedule with precision, supporting asset management across the institution.
- Assist with year-end procedures and statutory audit processes by providing technical support and ensuring timely completion of requirements.
- Support planning and budget-setting processes by engaging with stakeholders across departments, offering financial advice and solutions as needed.
What you bring:
- Previous experience in a similar finance leadership role within an organisational context is essential for success in this position.
- Demonstrated experience managing teams effectively by building positive relationships and nurturing talent within a supportive environment.
- Excellent IT skills including proficiency with finance systems (such as Agresso), MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are required for efficient workflow management.
- Ability to work under pressure while meeting agreed deadlines ensures reliability during peak periods or complex projects.
- Highly effective communication skills enable you to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences including senior colleagues and stakeholders.
- Qualified Accountant status (e.g., CCAB-qualified) is mandatory for this role; evidence of relevant qualifications must be provided.
