Overview
Seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Management Accountant to join the Accounts Department of a highly regarded law firm. This role is crucial in providing detailed management accounts and budgets, with a focus on compensation and benefits expenses. If you are a proactive individual with a passion for accounting and a commitment to continuous improvement, we want to hear from you! This is a permanent opportunity, based in Central London, with 4 days a week in the office.
Responsibilities
- Manage the European office compensation and benefits annual expense budget.
- Prepare monthly management accounts reports.
- Produce monthly budgetary control variance analysis.
- Review and prepare monthly general ledger analysis details.
- Lead quarterly management accounts review meetings with departmental managers.
- Prepare and maintain monthly payroll journal entries.
- Oversee monthly payroll accounting and prepare reconciliation of all staff benefits.
- Ensure payroll expenses are properly accounted for in the firm’s general ledger.
- Oversee the accurate recording of payroll liabilities, including taxes withheld.
- Assist with the preparation of the UK PAYE Settlement Agreement expense analysis where required.
- Prepare annual government data surveys.
- Develop monthly expense reporting required by the European office managers.
- Assist with the review and authorization of office payments where required.
- Provide cover for processing new accounts payable vendor requests where required.
- Assist with the development of the European office management accounts key data package.
- Mentor and develop other Management Accountants.
- Support the Accounting Manager with accounting projects.
- Report to the Accounting Manager regarding all work duties and tasks.
- Provide cover for Accounting team members during periods of absence.
- Liaise with the New York Accounts department where necessary.
- Handle ad-hoc queries and reports as required.
Key Skills
- Degree educated, with a BA in Accounting or similar preferred.
- Legal or professional services accounting experience, with 5+ years required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced Excel skills.
- Experience using Elite 3E or a comparable accounting system preferred.
- Strong understanding of UK VAT rules.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to present information effectively and respond to questions from people at all levels, including Partners, staff, and external customers.
- Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
- Ability to anticipate work needs and follow through with minimal direction.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Sound judgment.
- Capable of working within a high-energy, fast-paced environment.
- Available to work additional hours where necessary.
