Junior Assistant Accountant

What you\’ll do:

As a Junior Assistant Accountant, you will play an integral role within our growing finance team. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

1. Assisting with maintaining company accounts, including preparing and reviewing monthly financial reports (P&L and Balance Sheet)
2. Supporting the preparation of monthly balance sheet reconciliations, identifying potential errors or discrepancies
3. Assisting in the review and posting of GL accounting entries and raising journals where necessary
4. Helping prepare management accounts for various Profit Centres, ensuring accuracy before publication
5. Conducting basic analytical reviews to identify and resolve any errors or discrepancies
6. Providing support to senior team members with financial reporting and audit queries
7. Contributing to the preparation and submission of quarterly VAT returns and other compliance-related tasks
8. Assisting in the preparation of statutory accounts and supporting with external audit requirements
9. Providing ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting to support business decision-making
10. Helping improve financial processes and contributing ideas for streamlining workflows

The ideal candidate for this Junior Assistant Accountant position is someone who is studying towards a professional qualification or has a strong desire to begin one. You should have a basic understanding of financial reporting and accounting principles, along with strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in all tasks. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for engaging with stakeholders effectively. You should also have good organisational skills, the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines, and competent Excel skills. A proactive and positive attitude with a desire to learn and grow within the role is highly desirable.

1. Studying towards a professional qualification (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) or strong desire to begin qualification
2. Basic understanding of financial reporting and accounting principles
3. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all tasks
4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with stakeholders clearly and effectively
5. Good organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines
6. Competent Excel skills, with familiarity with formulas such as VLOOKUPs and pivot tables (training provided if needed)
7. A proactive and positive attitude with a desire to learn and grow within the role
