General Counsel

Our client, a rapidly growing international payments and rewards technology business, is seeking an experienced General Counsel to join their dynamic team. This is a unique opportunity for a seasoned legal professional to step into a strategic role within an entrepreneurial environment.The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the company's legal, regulatory, and litigation agenda, partnering closely with the CEO and executive team. You will have the chance to shape the legal function, advise on high-value cross-border legal issues, and ensure the business remains protected and compliant as it expands.

What you'll do:

As General Counsel for our client's fast-growing tech firm, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping their future. Your expertise will guide them through complex legal landscapes as they expand internationally. You'll be at the heart of decision-making processes – from advising on corporate structure to leading on litigation matters. Your work will directly impact their ability to deliver cutting-edge solutions to financial institutions, card issuers, and major retailers.

• Serve as the principal legal advisor to the CEO and senior leadership team.
• Own the legal function, establishing appropriate governance frameworks and policies.
• Support the company’s international growth strategy with legal guidance on new market entry, regulatory compliance, and partnerships.
• Oversee all commercial contracts, partnership agreements, and technology licensing matters.
• Advise on corporate structure, governance, and risk management.
• Lead on litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution matters.
• Monitor and interpret developments in payments, financial services, data protection, and consumer law across relevant markets.
• Advise on employment law matters including employee relations, contracts, and cross-border hiring.

Your proven track record in litigation, regulatory compliance and commercial law will enable you to navigate complex legal challenges with ease. Your ability to operate at board level will ensure that you can provide strategic advice that aligns with the company's goals. Your international outlook and experience managing cross-border legal issues will be crucial as the company continues to expand globally.

• Qualified solicitor (England & Wales) with at least 10+ years’ PQE.
• Proven in-house experience at a senior level.
• Able to operate at board level with credibility and commercial acumen.
• International outlook and experience managing cross-border legal issues.
• Prior experience setting up or scaling a legal function is desirable.
