A leading consultancy firm based in central London is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee finance and administration across multiple entities. This is an opportunity to take ownership of a broad range of responsibilities, including accounting, payroll, reporting, VAT, and company secretarial duties. You will work closely with senior stakeholders, making an impact on the business while enjoying a collaborative and inclusive culture that values knowledge sharing and teamwork.
Responsibilities:
- Overseeing day-to-day accounting processes such as invoicing, payment processing, and bank reconciliations.
- Preparing monthly management accounts, annual financial statements, and supporting audits with detailed documentation.
- Managing payroll for employees and directors, including onboarding new staff, calculating salaries/bonuses/pensions, handling PAYE liabilities, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
- Preparing VAT returns across multiple jurisdictions using systems like QuickBooks, Excel, Sage Payroll, and Dext.
- Reviewing client agreements, completing onboarding tasks via client portals, requesting purchase orders from clients when needed, and collaborating with the team to resolve outstanding debts.
- Supporting office management projects such as moves or refurbishments in collaboration with directors.
- Preparing partnership tax returns and liaising with pension plan trustees to ensure compliance with regulations.
Requirements:
- Professional Accounting Qualification - CIMA/ACCA/ACA.
- Proven experience in accounting or finance within a multi-entity environment (professional services experience is a plus).
- Strong technical skills in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks) and advanced proficiency in Excel for reporting purposes.
- A solid understanding of payroll processes (onboarding/exiting staff members, calculating salaries/bonuses/pensions/PAYE liabilities).
- Experience preparing management accounts, budgets, audit schedules, and ad-hoc financial reports for senior stakeholders.
- Knowledge of VAT compliance across UK/international jurisdictions.
- Familiarity with company secretarial duties such as confirmation statements and updating company information.
- Excellent attention to detail combined with strong interpersonal skills to build relationships across teams.
