An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to support the financial operations of an organisation in Bedfordshire. This role is suitable for someone with an understanding of finance or bookkeeping principles, or an individual currently studying or qualified in AAT, looking to develop their career further in a dynamic and supportive finance team.

Rate: £18.80 per hour (Inclusive of Holiday Pay)

Hours: 8am – 1pm (part time – 25 hours per week)

Location: Bedfordshire

Responsibilities:

  • Process invoices, reconcile payments, and ensure accurate financial record-keeping across both offline (e.g., Excel) and online (e.g., Xero) accounting software.
  • Generate and track purchase orders, ensuring all expenses are accurately recorded and allocated.
  • Prepare outgoing invoices, monitor accounts receivable, and follow up on overdue payments to support cash flow management.
  • Assist in analysing project costs upon completion to assess profitability and provide insights for financial planning.
  • Review and reconcile bank statements with internal financial records, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
  • Proactively investigate any financial discrepancies, escalating issues to the Finance Manager where necessary.
  • Support the preparation of financial reports, assist with cyclical VAT returns, and contribute to month-end and year-end processes.
  • Provide assistance with ad-hoc finance tasks as required, ensuring the smooth running of the finance function.

Experience needed:

  • AAT qualification or equivalent is desirable but not essential.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and familiarity with accounting software (Xero experience is a plus).
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Strong communication skills for liaising with clients, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
