Energy & Commodities Trading

You will be part of a group that understands how trades flow front‑to‑back and takes ownership for the quality of that flow: controls, processes and continuous improvement. This sits in a global energy & commodities trading business (power, gas and related products), within a front‑office aligned Trading Risk & Control team in London.

Role overview

The team is hiring a Senior Manager and a Junior / Senior Analyst. Both sit close to the trading desk and focus on how trades flow front‑to‑back, ensuring the business grows safely and efficiently.

What you’ll do

  • Run trade lifecycle controls: Oversee day‑to‑day controls around trade booking, lifecycle events, P&L and exposure integrity, reconciliations and issue follow‑up across power, gas and related products.
  • Operate the non‑financial risk framework: Support control testing, incidents and near‑miss analysis, remediation tracking, and MI / governance packs for senior stakeholders.
  • Improve processes and workflows: Map FO / MO / BO processes, spot control gaps and pain points, and drive practical fixes and automation with change / technology teams.
  • Partner with the business: Work directly with traders, risk, operations and finance to balance commercial objectives with strong controls, and provide clear, constructive challenge where needed.

The Senior Manager will lead stakeholder engagement, shape the overall control framework and oversee change, while the Analyst will be more hands‑on in the controls, investigations and process analysis, with clear room to grow.

Requirements

  • Experience in non‑financial risk / controls role – markets / trading, trade support or non‑financial risk / controls role within financial services (energy & commodities, FX, rates or equities all relevant).
  • Solid understanding of how trades flow front‑to‑back and where things can go wrong (bookings, lifecycle events, P&L, risk, settlements, data).
  • Hands‑on experience with controls or process improvement – e.g. reconciliations, breaks management, RCSAs, incidents, remediation, or workflow redesign.
  • Comfortable working with data and systems (Excel as a minimum; any exposure to risk, trading or reporting platforms is a plus).

About the job

  • Contract Type: Permanent
  • Industry: Oil and Gas
  • Workplace Type: Hybrid
  • Experience Level: Mid Management
  • Location: City of London
  • Specialism: Risk & Compliance
  • Focus: Risk - Operational Risk
  • Salary: £70,000 - £120,000 per annum
