An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Locum Commercial Solicitor to join a dynamic team within a large Local Authority. This is a key role providing expert legal advice and support on commercial, procurement, and governance matters. Job Details
- Contract: Interim 3 - 6 months (35 hours per week)
- Location: Birmingham, Hybrid Working
- Rate: £60-£65 per hour
- Start Date: First Week of February
Key Responsibilities
- Provide pragmatic and timely legal advice on procurement strategies and legal risk management.
- Draft, review, and negotiate agreements, including joint ventures (JVs) and commercial aspects of regeneration projects.
- Support major programmes and projects, including construction initiatives, by addressing legal and operational priorities.
- Advise on governance processes, ensuring compliance with organisational policies and decision-making procedures.
- Review reports within the framework of governance structures.
- Address recent governance challenges while supporting improvements in procurement and commercial practices.
Qualifications & Skills
- UK Qualified Solicitor (or equivalent) with solid post-qualification experience (PQE).
- Proven expertise in commercial contracts and procurement matters gained in private practice or an in-house environment.
- Strong understanding of governance processes within large organisations or local authorities.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage competing priorities, and provide clear, practical advice.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with a collaborative approach to working across teams and departments.
