Im partnering with an established manufacturing business who are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join their team in Macclesfield. This is a days based position (8:00 - 16:00), where you will lead the engineering function, ensuring maximum plant uptime, operational efficiency, while developing a high-performing engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a robust preventative maintenance strategy to reduce downtime and improve asset performance
- Lead, coach, and develop a multi-skilled engineering team, driving engagement and performance
- Ensure full compliance with health & safety, environmental, and ISO standards
- Manage engineering budgets, contractors, and procurement to deliver cost-effective solutions
- Oversee and improve CMMS systems to enhance maintenance planning and reliability
- Work closely with operations to achieve production targets and continuous improvement objectives
- Analyse equipment performance data, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
- Plan and execute planned shutdowns and engineering projects
- Lead capital expenditure projects from concept through to completion
- Champion a strong safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with site procedures and permit systems
Key Skills & Experience
- Essential
- Strong electrical engineering background with expertise in control systems and PLCs
- Proven experience in an engineering management role within a manufacturing environment (typically 3-5 years)
- Demonstrated people management and leadership capability, with a hands-on approach
- Experience managing engineering budgets (OPEX & CAPEX)
- Strong experience with CMMS systems
- Ability to analyse data and drive root cause improvements
- Track record of delivering continuous improvement and operational change
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders
- Desirable
- Background in process manufacturing (e.g. coatings, print, or similar)
- Knowledge of TPM / Autonomous Maintenance environments
- Experience in machinery safety standards (e.g. SIL levels)
- Lean manufacturing experience (e.g. 5S, RCA, PDCA, 5 Why methodology)
Technical Competencies
- Advanced understanding of electrical engineering principles and machine control systems
- Experience with PLC programming and industrial automation systems
- Strong IT skills including Excel, PowerPoint, and CMMS platforms
- Ability to prepare and present engineering performance data and reports
- Experience leading multi-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
- HND or Degree in an Engineering discipline (or equivalent experience)
- Health & Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH, NEBOSH desirable)
- Additional technical training in control systems / automation (advantageous)
- Leadership or management training (desirable)
