Vehicle Technician / MOT Tester Robert Thompson Garage Services – Darton, Barnsley S75 5NN Full-time | Permanent | Monday to Friday Salary: £35,214–£37,000 per annum, depending on MOT qualifications, plus overtime. About the Position Due to the retirement of a valued member of our team after 44 years of service, we are looking for an experienced and reliable Vehicle Technician / MOT Tester to join our long-established independent garage in Darton, Barnsley. We welcome applications from both qualified MOT testers and experienced vehicle technicians who would be interested in gaining their MOT testing qualification. For the right candidate who is not already an MOT tester, we are happy to arrange and fund the necessary training, subject to meeting DVSA eligibility requirements. Key Responsibilities * Carry out vehicle servicing, maintenance and mechanical repairs to a high standard. * Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate diagnostic equipment. * Inspect, maintain and repair brakes, suspension, steering, exhaust and other vehicle systems. * Carry out MOT testing in accordance with DVSA regulations once qualified and authorised. * Maintain accurate records and follow workshop health and safety procedures. * Work independently and as part of our experienced workshop team. * Provide a professional and reliable service to our customers. Qualifications and Experience * Previous experience as a vehicle mechanic or technician is essential. * Current MOT testing qualification is desirable but not essential. * Applicants without an MOT qualification must be willing and eligible to undertake the necessary training and assessment. * Good mechanical and diagnostic skills. * A commitment to high standards of workmanship and vehicle safety. * Reliable, professional and able to work as part of a team. Salary and Working Hours * Experienced Vehicle Technician (not MOT qualified): £35,214.40 per annum (£16.93 per hour). * Qualified MOT Tester / Vehicle Technician: £37,000.08 per annum (£17.79 per hour). * Monday to Friday – 40 hours per week. * Saturday overtime available, 8.30 am–12.30pm * Saturday overtime paid at time and a half. * Salary progression to the qualified MOT tester rate following successful completion of training and authorisation.
