About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and commercially astute M&E Commercial Manager to join our client’s leadership team. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the commercial performance and financial control of multiple mechanical and electrical projects, ensuring profitability, value for money, and effective risk management across the business. This key leadership role will involve working closely with project managers, the pre-construction team, and clients, offering strategic commercial insight and hands-on management to support the company’s operational and financial targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the commercial function on allocated mechanical and electrical projects from tender stage through to final account.
  • Provide accurate and timely commercial reporting, including cost value reconciliations, cash flow forecasts, and financial reports.
  • Manage and control project budgets, monitoring expenditure and maximising value.
  • Oversee the preparation and agreement of interim valuations, final accounts, and variations.
  • Lead commercial negotiations with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Support the procurement process for subcontractor packages and major material orders, ensuring alignment with project programmes.
  • Manage and mentor project Quantity Surveyors, ensuring compliance with company policies and professional standards.
  • Identify, assess, and manage commercial risks and opportunities on projects.
  • Work collaboratively with operational teams to achieve commercial targets while maintaining high-quality project delivery.
  • Support the preparation of tender and bid submissions, offering commercial insight and advice.
  • Ensure that project commercial files and records are up to date and accurately maintained.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong commercial and financial management skills within the building services sector.
  • In-depth knowledge of M&E contracting, commercial practices, and contractual obligations.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management ability.
  • Proactive problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in commercial reporting tools and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Commercially aware, detail-focused, and results-driven.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant degree or professional qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar.
  • Demonstrable experience in a senior commercial management role within M&E contracting.
  • Proven track record of managing the commercial aspects of large-scale, complex projects.
  • Familiarity with modern methods of construction, BIM processes, and digital project management systems (advantageous).
