We are seeking an experienced Senior Construction Manager to lead the delivery of a large-scale commercial building project with a strong emphasis on mechanical systems. This role is critical to ensuring the successful planning, coordination, and execution of complex MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) installations, with a particular focus on mechanical infrastructure such as HVAC, plant systems, and associated services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all on-site construction activities, with a primary focus on mechanical works.
- Oversee the planning, sequencing, and delivery of HVAC systems, plant rooms, ductwork, pipework, and associated mechanical installations.
- Coordinate closely with MEP consultants, subcontractors, and design teams to ensure technical compliance and seamless integration.
- Ensure all mechanical systems are delivered to specification, on time, and within budget.
- Monitor and enforce health & safety standards across all site operations.
- Conduct regular progress reviews, inspections, and quality assurance checks.
- Identify and mitigate project risks, particularly those related to mechanical complexity.
- Manage subcontractor performance, ensuring high standards of workmanship and adherence to programme.
- Support commissioning, testing, and handover of mechanical systems.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to site teams and junior managers.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Senior Construction Manager or similar role on large commercial projects.
- Strong background in mechanical construction, ideally within complex building environments (e.g., high-rise, data centres, hospitals, or large commercial developments).
- In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, building services, and mechanical installation processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large subcontractor teams and coordinate multidisciplinary stakeholders.
- Excellent understanding of UK building regulations, health & safety standards, and industry best practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Relevant qualifications in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- SMSTS, CSCS (Black/Professional), and other relevant certifications preferred.
Desirable
- Experience with BIM and digital construction tools.
- Track record of delivering projects with high mechanical complexity on tight programmes.
- Familiarity with commissioning processes and soft landings approach.
