Key Responsibilities
- High Voltage Operations
- Act as Senior Authorised Person for High Voltage systems (typically 11kV–33kV, or higher depending on site).
- Carry out HV switching operations on electrical distribution networks.
- Prepare, review, and implement switching schedules and isolation procedures.
- Issue and cancel Permits to Work, Sanctions for Test, and Safety Documents.
- Control HV network operations to maintain safe system configuration.
- Ensure all switching and HV operations comply with:
- Electricity at Work Regulations
- Site Electrical Safety Rules
- Industry best practice
- Coordinate planned maintenance on HV equipment such as:
- Switchgear
- Transformers
- Protection systems
- HV cabling
- Maintain accurate network diagrams, switching logs, and operational records.
- Review and update electrical safety rules and operational procedures.
- Support commissioning and energisation of new HV installations.
Qualifications
- Recognised electrical engineering qualification (e.g., HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent).
- Formal High Voltage Senior Authorised Person appointment under a recognised safety rules system.
Experience
- Proven experience working as a High Voltage Authorised Person / Senior Authorised Person.
- Hands-on experience performing HV switching operations on live distribution networks.
- Experience operating 11kV or above HV systems.
- Experience preparing switching schedules and isolation documentation.
- Experience issuing Permits to Work and safety documents.
