We are seeking a fully qualified Approved Electrician to carry out electrical installation, maintenance, and remedial works within a high-security prison environment. The successful candidate must hold, or be eligible to obtain, EL1 security clearance due to the sensitive nature of the site. Working within a custodial setting requires strict adherence to security protocols, professionalism, and the ability to work safely in controlled environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Installation of containment systems (tray, trunking, conduit, basket)
  • Installation and termination of SWA and twin & earth cabling
  • 1st and 2nd fix electrical installations
  • Consumer unit and distribution board installation
  • Fault finding and diagnostics
  • Testing and inspection (where qualified)
  • Emergency lighting and fire alarm wiring
  • Working to current wiring regulations (BS 7671)
  • Completing relevant documentation and test certificates
  • Liaising with site managers, prison staff, and other trades
  • Ensuring compliance with all site security and health & safety procedures

Essential Requirements

  • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation (or equivalent)
  • AM2 qualification
  • City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) - preferred
  • ECS Gold Card (Approved Electrician)
  • Proven experience in commercial/industrial environments
  • Ability to work in high-security settings
  • EL1 Security Clearance (or willingness to undergo clearance)
  • Clean criminal record (required for clearance)
  • Strong understanding of safe isolation procedures
