The Electrician will carry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance on a Ministry of Defence (MOD) site. The role requires Security Check (SC) Clearance due to the sensitive nature of the environment. Work must be completed in line with MOD regulations, site procedures, and relevant electrical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Planned and reactive electrical maintenance on MOD facilities
  • Fault finding and repair on:
    • Lighting systems
    • Power distribution
    • Small power and containment
    • Emergency lighting and fire alarm interfaces (where applicable)
  • Carry out electrical inspections, testing, and minor installations
  • Complete PPM schedules and maintenance documentation accurately
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations)
    • MOD safety and security procedures
    • Health & Safety at Work Act
  • Work within live environments following safe systems of work
  • Liaise with site management, supervisors, and security personnel
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and professionalism at all times

Security Requirements

  • Must hold valid SC Clearance (or be eligible and willing to undergo clearance)
  • Adherence to MOD security protocols, including access control and information handling
  • No unauthorised devices or materials brought onto site

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential:
    • NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation / Maintenance (or equivalent)
    • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671)
    • Proven experience in electrical maintenance (commercial or industrial)
    • ECS / JIB Gold Card (or equivalent)
    • Strong fault-finding skills
  • Desirable:
    • Experience working on MOD, government, or secure sites
    • 2391 or equivalent Testing & Inspection qualification
    • Knowledge of permit‑to‑work systems
    • Health & Safety
    • Understanding of RAMS (Risk Assessments & Method Statements)
    • Experience working under permit‑to‑work and lock‑off procedures
    • Ability to work safely in restricted and controlled environments
