A major infrastructure delivery organisation has been appointed as the Competitively Appointed Provider (CAP) under the Direct Procurement for Customers (DPC) model to deliver a nationally significant water resilience programme in the North West. The appointed organisation is responsible for the financing, design, construction, and long-term maintenance of the new assets, working in partnership with leading international contractors and infrastructure investors.
The Design Manager will support the Design Management function across the full project lifecycle, with particular emphasis on design programme coordination and Building Information Modelling (BIM) management. Key responsibilities will include supporting design assurance processes, coordinating review procedures, maintaining design data workflows, and ensuring alignment between project stakeholders, contractors and technical teams.
Key Responsibilities- Support the Design Management function across all phases of the project lifecycle.
- Monitor and coordinate progress against the design programme and associated milestones.
- Maintain lookahead schedules for the release and approval of Reviewable Design Data (RDD).
- Attend design coordination meetings and site visits as required.
- Support preparation of project reporting documentation, including monthly and quarterly progress reports.
- Ensure BIM models remain up to date and compliant with project information management requirements.
- Coordinate design data submissions and associated review processes.
- Assist with Request for Information (RFI) management, design reviews and approvals.
- Support the management of design risks, value engineering initiatives and optioneering activities.
- Assist with commercial management activities relating to design scope, change control and contractual obligations.
- Facilitate effective communication between design stakeholders, including meeting coordination and production of minutes.
- Maintain accurate records and registers relating to design deliverables and progress tracking.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in design coordination, BIM coordination, design management support, or similar roles within infrastructure or construction sectors.
- Experience working with BIM models and live project design documentation.
- Understanding of design data management processes and compliance procedures.
- Experience liaising with contractors, consultants and key project stakeholders.
- Degree qualified in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with BIM processes and ProjectWise or similar document management platforms.
- Formal BIM training would be advantageous.
The successful candidate will be organised, proactive and detail-oriented, with strong communication and coordination skills. They will be comfortable working within a fast-paced infrastructure environment and capable of managing multiple design interfaces while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance. This role must be comfortable working a minimum of 3 days onsite in Manchester.
