Overview
In this permanent role, you will partner with the Head of Data Science & Machine Learning to shape strategy and engage stakeholders. You will generate novel research ideas that give a competitive edge in the defence-focused customer base and work autonomously on complex data science solutions. You will lead technical delivery across projects, mentor juniors, and deliver AI/ML solutions to security-sensitive challenges. A clearance (eDV/SC) is required to operate in this highly secure environment.

Responsibilities
- Shape group strategy and engage stakeholders
- Generate novel research ideas with competitive impact
- Develop complex data science solutions autonomously
- Triage opportunities aligned to strategy
- Design and deliver data-centric solutions with cross-disciplinary teams
- Lead technical delivery of research and AI/ML work on customer and internal projects
- Provide technical leadership across multiple projects
- Manage and develop junior members of the SRG team
- Deliver AI, ML and data science solutions to defence problems
Key requirements
- Several years of delivering novel ML solutions to customers and internal stakeholders
- Proven experience as a Senior/Principal Data Scientist with leadership capability
- Excellent Python coding practice with ML libraries (HuggingFace, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
- Experience building robust ML pipelines with MLOps tools for training, monitoring, deployment
- Experience with version control and environment management (e.g. venvs, Docker)
- Expert knowledge of AI/ML algorithms across data types and tasks, incl Generative AI, NLP, computer vision
- Hands-on experience training and developing AI models, including Large Language Models
- Ability to obtain eDV and SC clearance
