Robert Half is delighted to be partnering with a growing independent accountancy practice in Edinburgh to recruit a Senior Accountant. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking firm that prides itself on strong client relationships, innovative use of cloud-based technology, and a culture of continuous improvement. The business supports a varied portfolio of SME clients across sectors, delivering high-quality compliance and advisory services.
The Role
As a Senior Accountant, you will take ownership of a designated portfolio of clients, acting as their primary point of contact and ensuring they receive timely, accurate, and value-adding support. Alongside core compliance work, you'll also play a key role in building relationships, spotting opportunities, and contributing to the firm's growth. Day-to-day, you will:
- Prepare year-end accounts for clients using IRIS
- Prepare corporation tax returns and self-assessment tax returns (for company directors and tax-only clients)
- Review annual accounts prepared by peers and VAT returns where required
- Act as client manager, ensuring prompt query responses, profitable job completion, and agreed timescales are met
- Conduct pre year-end and post year-end meetings/calls with clients
- Review client pricing annually and agree on fees for additional work
- Prepare management accounts and attend client meetings where possible
- Maintain Xero certification and leverage add-on apps and EPOS systems
- Ensure compliance with AML reporting for your client group
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement across your portfolio
- Support with other ad hoc tasks as directed by the firm's directors
About You
We're looking for someone who enjoys working closely with clients, thrives on variety, and brings a proactive, problem-solving approach. You'll ideally be:
- Professionally qualified (ACCA/ICAS/ACA), part-qualified or qualified by experience within practice
- Experienced in preparing accounts, corporation tax, and self-assessment returns
- Confident in managing client relationships and delivering a high standard of service
- Familiar with cloud accounting software (Xero certification essential)
- Organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing a varied workload
- Commercially aware, with the ability to spot opportunities to add value to clients
