We are currently working with a growing and well-established privately owned business in Edinburgh that is looking to add a Part-Qualified Management Accountant to its finance team.
This is a great opportunity for an ambitious finance professional who is looking to take the next step in their career and gain broader exposure across management accounts, month-end, budgeting, forecasting and commercial finance.
You'll work closely with the Senior Finance Manager and have genuine ownership of your responsibilities, alongside the opportunity to support and develop a more junior member of the team.
The role
- Preparing monthly management accounts and supporting schedules across multiple entities.
- Taking ownership of the month-end process, including accruals, prepayments, journals and depreciation.
- Completing balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Supporting cash-flow forecasting, budgeting and financial forecasting.
- Analysing actual performance against budget and providing clear variance analysis and commentary.
- Supporting VAT returns, statutory accounts and audit requirements.
- Working closely with senior stakeholders to provide accurate financial information and commercial insight.
- Reviewing and supporting the work of an Assistant Accountant, helping to maintain strong financial controls.
- Identifying opportunities to improve processes, reporting and automation across the finance function.
- Supporting wider finance projects, financial analysis and ad-hoc commercial reporting.
About you
We're looking for someone who is Part-Qualified or actively studying towards ACCA, CIMA or ACA and is ready to progress into a broader Management Accountant position.
Ideally, you will have
- 2-4+ years' relevant finance experience, with strong management accounting exposure.
- Experience preparing management accounts and supporting schedules.
- Good understanding of month-end, reconciliations, accruals and prepayments.
- Exposure to budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and variance analysis.
- Strong Excel skills and confidence working with finance systems.
- Good understanding of UK accounting principles and VAT.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage your own workload.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- A proactive approach, with an interest in process improvement and automation.
- Ideally, some experience supporting or reviewing more junior members of a finance team.
