We are currently working with a well-established organisation based in Derby who are seeking an Assistant Accountant to provide short- to medium-term cover during a period of sickness. This is a hands-on role supporting the finance function and would suit someone who can step in quickly and confidently into a busy accounting environment. This position is fully office-based, 5 days per week, and requires someone who is immediately available or on short notice.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting month-end close, including journals, accruals, and prepayments
- Assisting with balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis
- Maintaining accurate general ledger entries
- Supporting Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable where required
- Preparing financial reports and schedules for management
- Assisting with audit preparation and responding to finance queries
- Ensuring compliance with internal controls and accounting procedures
Skills & Experience Required
- Previous experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar finance role
- Strong understanding of month-end processes and reconciliations
- Confident using accounting systems and Excel
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and hit the ground running
- Strong communication skills and a proactive approach
