Role: Finance Business Partner
Location: West Midlands (Hybrid)
Robert Half is partnering with a well-established organisation within the project-based professional services sector to recruit a Finance Business Partner. This is a high-impact, commercially focused role supporting senior operational leadership within a fast-paced and collaborative environment. Reporting directly to the Finance Director, with a reporting line into the Regional GM, the Finance Business Partner will play a critical role in providing insight, challenge and decision support to drive business performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial & Management Accounting
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in line with group accounting policies
- Post and review general ledger journals
- Monitor and report off-balance sheet commitments
- Apply technical accounting expertise to ensure correct treatment of transactions
- Business Partnering
- Partner closely with operational leaders and project managers to support project performance
- Coach and train stakeholders on project accounting systems and financial controls
- Act as a trusted advisor, translating complex financial data into clear, actionable insights
- Financial Planning & Analysis
- Prepare and present monthly and quarterly financial reports
- Analyse KPIs including invoice lag, debtors, variances and productive hours
- Lead monthly project reviews alongside the General Manager
- Provide performance analysis and recommendations to improve commercial outcomes
- Budgeting & Forecasting
- Play an active role in annual budget preparation
- Support quarterly reforecasting and long-range planning
- Track performance against budget, producing variance analysis and corrective actions
- Support control of overhead spend in line with agreed budgets
- Cash Management
- Maximise invoicing efficiency and oversee effective credit control
- Identify cost drivers and opportunities for cost reduction
- Ensure supplier set-up and payments comply with internal controls and agreed terms
- Governance, Control & Compliance
- Ensure all reporting is delivered in line with group timetables
- Lead internal control reporting for the business unit
- Support internal and external audits
- Ensure compliance with group policies and procedures
- Additional Responsibilities
- Contribute to business unit administration and wider reporting (e.g. sustainability, HR, statutory data)
- Support strategic initiatives and business improvement projects
- Deliver ad-hoc financial analysis for new opportunities and operational changes
About You
- Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent)
- Minimum of 2 years' post-qualified experience in FP&A, business partnering
- Strong experience working in a business partnering or project-based environment
- Able to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders
- Strong relationship builder with the ability to influence at all levels
- Commercially minded with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- High attention to detail, quality-focused and deadline-driven
- Strong Excel skills; PowerPoint and Word proficiency essential
- SAP knowledge desirable
- Confident managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
