The Opportunity

Robert Half is delighted to be partnering with a successful and rapidly growing business to recruit a Billing Team Lead. This is an exciting opportunity to join an established finance function and lead a high-performing billing team in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. Managing a team of 5-6 Billing Clerks, you'll be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely delivery of invoicing, driving process improvements, and supporting the wider finance function through strong leadership and operational excellence. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Billing Supervisor or Team Leader looking to take the next step within a growing organisation that offers genuine career progression.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership
    • Lead, coach and develop a team of 5-6 Billing clerks.
    • Set clear objectives and monitor team performance against agreed KPIs.
    • Conduct regular one-to-ones and performance reviews.
    • Support recruitment, onboarding and training of new team members.
    • Allocate workloads effectively to ensure deadlines are consistently achieved.
    • Foster a collaborative, customer-focused and high-performing team culture.
  • Billing Operations
    • Oversee the timely and accurate production of customer invoices.
    • Ensure billing is completed in line with contractual agreements and internal deadlines.
    • Review billing exceptions and resolve complex invoicing issues.
    • Maintain accurate customer and pricing information.
    • Monitor billing volumes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
  • Stakeholder Management
    • Build strong relationships with Finance, Operations and Commercial teams.
    • Act as the first point of escalation for billing queries.
    • Work closely with Credit Control to minimise invoice disputes and improve cash collection.
    • Provide guidance on billing processes and best practice across the business.
  • Month-End Reporting
    • Ensure all billing activities are completed in line with month-end deadlines.
    • Perform billing reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
    • Produce regular reporting on team performance and billing metrics.
    • Support internal and external audit requirements where required.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Identify and implement improvements to billing processes and controls.
    • Support finance transformation and system enhancement projects.
    • Promote automation and efficiencies to improve accuracy and productivity.
    • Maintain and improve process documentation.

About You

You'll be an experienced billing professional who enjoys developing people and improving processes. You'll ideally have:

  • Previous experience in Billing, Sales Ledger or Accounts Receivable.
  • Experience managing or supervising a small team.
  • Strong knowledge of billing processes and financial controls.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong organisational abilities.
  • Strong Excel and finance systems experience.
  • A proactive, solutions-focused approach with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Experience working within a high-volume finance environment.
