Client Accountant

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Client Accountant to join a growing accountancy practice based in Aylesbury. This is a varied, hands-on position where you will take ownership of your own portfolio of SME and owner-managed business clients, acting as their main point of contact and providing practical accounting and tax advice.
The successful candidate will enjoy a high degree of autonomy and will be responsible for managing their clients from day-to-day accounting requirements through to year-end accounts, tax compliance and wider financial advice.
The Role
As Client Accountant, you will:
- Manage a portfolio of SME and owner-managed business clients.
- Act as the main point of contact, responding to client queries by telephone and email and providing clear, practical guidance.
- Prepare year-end statutory accounts and corporation tax computations from start to finish.
- Prepare and review Self Assessment tax returns for sole traders, company directors and individuals.
- Prepare, review and file VAT returns, resolving bookkeeping and reconciliation queries where required.
- Prepare management accounts and support with budgets, forecasts and cash flow reporting.
- Provide advice around tax efficiency, payroll, cash flow and day-to-day financial management.
- Manage client deadlines and ensure statutory and monthly filing requirements are met.
- Complete company secretarial filings and maintain statutory records.
- Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and highlight where clients could benefit from additional finance or accountancy support.
About You
We are looking for an experienced accountant who is comfortable working within an accountancy practice environment and dealing directly with clients.
You will ideally have:
- AAT, ACCA, ACA or equivalent qualification, or be qualified by experience.
- Previous experience working within an accountancy practice .
- Strong experience preparing year-end accounts and tax computations.
- Experience working with SMEs and owner-managed businesses.
- A good understanding of statutory accounts, corporation tax, VAT and Self Assessment.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial and accounting matters clearly to non-finance professionals.
- A confident and accountable approach, with the ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
- A genuine client-focused approach and the confidence to provide practical, honest advice.
